Day 170- Chocolate Intake (Substitute for Dark Chocolate)

It's time to make another change to my chocolate intake. This time I thought I'd substitute my regular Peanut Butter M&M's for dark chocolate. I think I'll treat myself once a week with some Peanut Butter M&M's, but otherwise that's all I'm allowed.

I find that dark chocolate is an acquired taste. I used to hate dark chocolate, but for some reason I don't mind it now. I discovered the higher percentage of the cacao the more nutritional benefits it contains.

True dark chocolate is anything above 65% . After I discovered there was a recommended percentage, I searched my package of chocolate looking for the percentage and as it turns out I'm only at 45%. Drat! No wonder I don't mind dark chocolate. I'm not eating 'true' dark chocolate. I'll see if I can find something with 65% next time.

Eating dark chocolate is actually quite good for you, but again you need to watch your intake. Many things are good for you in moderation, but you can always over-do-it.

What benefits are there in eating dark chocolate?
  • It helps to lower blood pressure
  • It helps lower bad cholesterol (LDL)
  • It contains serotonin, which helps as an anti-depressant
