Day 125- Keep Those Everyday Items Free of Germs

There are germs on so many everyday items that we use. We can't get rid of all the germs, but there are a few we can improve upon. It only takes a little effort to get rid of these germs. I forget how many of these things I ignore when I'm doing my cleaning, but I will make sure I don't ignore them any longer.

First the computer keyboard, cell phone and remote. All it takes to keep these items free of germs is to make sure to wipe them down. A wet nap will do just fine as long as I make sure it's not too damp.

Then there are those specific items in the kitchen such as the salt and pepper shakers, kitchen surfaces and sponges. I just need to take a clean sponge to wipe down any surface along with the salt and pepper shaker, and then toss the sponge in the dishwasher with my dishes. I don't know if a dish cloth would be fine to put in the dishwasher, but I do know if you clean the dish cloth in your clothes washer you're not going to get rid of those germs unless you wash it in hot water.

These are just a few of the places where germs lurk, but I can't control all of the germs that are out there so I will just focus on these few common items for now, and maybe a few other items, but you'd be surprised at where germs are lurking. Following is a list of common places for germs you find while going about your everyday activities:

  • Airplane bathrooms
  • Doorknobs
  • Toothbrushes
  • Washers and dryers
  • Money
  • Purses
  • Wallets
  • Buttons (like on an ATM)
  • The car
  • Drinking fountain, bubbler, water fountain or whatever you call that contraption (Personally I call it a drinking fountain, and we actually had one in my home growing up, so I think I may be an expert on the subject)
  • The gym
  • Shopping carts
  • The candy bowl
  • The classroom
  • The gas station
  • Any drink garnish you get in a restaurant or bar
  • The menu
  • Your shower curtain
  • Your vacuum
