Since I have stopped biting my nails, I have noticed I have a problem. I am cursed with weak and brittle nails. They are constantly breaking, and even though I don't bite them anymore, they just don't look very good.
So it's time to do some experimenting. There are a few tips I have found after doing a little research. I figured I'd give them a try and see what happens.
First of all it is suggested that I don't abuse my nails. That means I shouldn't use my nails as a tool to pick, poke or pry things open. Also to protect them while doing dishes it is suggested I wear rubber gloves. I don't have rubber gloves, but maybe I'll try this if nothing else is working.
It is also suggested that you use a hand moisturizer on a daily basis. Not only does that keep your hands moisturized but it also helps with your fingernails and cuticles. This one's already being done by me, so I don't have to worry about this one. Another suggestion I'm already doing is taking my vitamins.
The big thing I'm doing that is different is applying a nail hardener. I started using Sally Hansen's Hard As Nails, Hard As Wraps. There are several different Hard as Nails products by Sally Hansen, and I'm not sure which product works the best. I'm not really an expert in this area. Especially since I was an avid nail biter all my life.
I don't know how much this will help, but they do seem stronger already. I found one resource that says you should apply the hardener once a day for a week, and then after a week remove the polish, and start all over again.
They also say you shouldn't use polish remover more than once a week. So with all of these suggestions I guess I will just see what happens. Hopefully I'll be successful in making those fingernails of mine stronger.
